Business advisors — mentors vs. coaches

About business mentoring

Business mentoring is a relationship between you as an entrepreneur, and someone with business experience who guides you. Business mentors offer support and advice on running your business.

Business mentoring is NOT business coaching

These are often considered to be the same, but are in fact very different.

Business mentors are usually experienced business people giving something back through guidance to less experienced business owners. They have much to give, but their advice is limited to their specific industry experience. Mentors are rarely trained in business best practices for areas outside their own experience.

Business coaches are more like teachers. They are skilled in training and coaching business owners to define goals and strategies and improve performance.

Benefits gained through business coaching include:

More free time

Working smarter = increased profit and less time at the office.

Commitment

A business coach works together with you on your business.

More energy

Better performance = less stress worrying how to make ends meet.
